The idea of establishing the Okhaldhunga–Kathmandu Tamang Sewa Samaj emerged from a genuine need to unite Tamang families from Okhaldhunga living in Kathmandu.
Before the organization was formed, many community members faced hardship during illness, accidents, natural disasters, or the loss of loved ones. Without an organized support system, economically disadvantaged families often struggled to cope with these difficult situations.
Recognizing these challenges, community leaders initiated a movement to establish a united social organization that would strengthen solidarity, preserve cultural identity, and provide mutual support.
On 14 April 2005 (Baisakh 1, 2062 B.S.), a historic gathering at Balaju Baise Dhara Park, Kathmandu, unanimously decided to establish the organization under the name Okhaldhunga–Kathmandu Tamang Sewa Samaj.
The organization has since continued its journey with the spirit of Unity, Service, Culture, and Community Development.
